Keeping Your Financial Aid

-

To stay eligible for financial aid, students must:

Attendance Policy:

A student marked a non-attending in any course by their instructor will have their financial aid package recalculated to reflect the current hours the student is attending.  Instructors are required to take attendance prior to census date for the semester.  Students should check their course syllabi for each instructor's attendance policy to be sure they comply with the guidelines to be counted as attending class.

Satisfactory Academic Progress:

To keep getting financial aid every semester, students must be making progress in their program of study.  Students must also continually meet the following criteria:

1. 2.0 cumulative (overall) GPA
2. Must complete 67% of all attempted credit hours
3. Credit hours that do not exceed 150% of the minimum number of hours required to complete your program of study

Students are encouraged to read more about Satisfactory Academic Progress, but can also view a simplified flow chart of the process below.

Financial Aid Renewal:

You must reapply for your financial aid each year. You may complete the renewal FAFSA application but make you you update any demographic, income, asset and household information that may have changed since the previous application period.

You should complete the renewal form as soon as October 1st preceding the aid year that begins the following fall, keeping in mind that you should complete your financial aid process before the priority deadline each semester.

The award year for federal student aid runs from July 1 of each year, through June 30 of the following year.  Which years application you need to submit will depend on when you plan to begin your enrollment.

Fall: Students beginning enrollment during a fall semester, should fill out the application that begins with the year of that semester, and stretches into the following year.  For example, if you wish to begin enrollment in the fall of 2023, you will apply for the 2023-2024 award year.

Spring: Students beginning enrollment during a spring semester, should fill out the application that began with the year prior to that semester, and stretches into the current year.  For example, if you wish to begin enrollment in the spring of 2024, you will apply for the 2023-2024 award year.

Summer:  Don't let this one trick you!  Students beginning enrollment during a summer semester, should fill out the application that began with the year prior to that semester, and stretches into the current year.  For example, if you wish to begin enrollment in the summer of 2024, you will apply for the 2023-2024 award year.  This is because summer aid trails at the end of the award year.
