The Trinity Valley Community College Music Department offers a dynamic and inclusive environment for both aspiring music professionals and students seeking creative enrichment. Our department grants Associate of Arts degrees in both Voice and Instrumental Music, and welcomes all students — regardless of major — to participate in a wide array of vibrant ensembles.
Our performance groups include Cardinal Singers, TVCC Cardinal Regiment Marching Band, Jazz Band, Symphonic Band, Woodwind Ensemble, and Brass Ensemble, offering meaningful opportunities for musical collaboration and growth.
The department is guided by six dedicated faculty members. Our full-time faculty include:
• Dr. Hsingfang Liu (Music Education, Sight-Singing/Ear Training)
• Dr. Ashley Holder (Music Department Coordinator, Assistant Band Director, Woodwinds Professor)
• Dr. Kristin Huggins (Fine Arts Division Chair, Director of Choral Activities, Professor of Voice)
• Kara Villines (Professor of Piano, Choral and Departmental Accompanist)
• Jeffery Dubose (Head Band Director, Jazz Band Director, Professor of Brass)
Our part-time faculty member, Jake Hamb, serves as Instructor of Percussion. Students in the TVCC Music Department have unique opportunities to perform both regionally and nationally. In Spring 2025, the Cardinal Singers will be featured in the musical Working: A Musical (revised by Lin-Manuel Miranda) in collaboration with TVCC’s Drama and Dance departments. The Symphonic Band is set to tour Branson, Missouri in May 2025, while the Cardinal Singers have received the distinguished honor of performing at Carnegie Hall in New York City for the world premiere of Stabat Mater in May 2026.
Graduates of our program have successfully transferred to acclaimed institutions such as Berklee College of Music, Sam Houston State University, Abilene Christian University, Southern Utah University, Texas A&M-Commerce, and the University of Houston, among others — a testament to the preparation and mentorship our faculty provide.
The TVCC Music Department is committed to fostering a culture of musical excellence, innovation, and accessibility. We emphasize not only individual artistry but also interdisciplinary collaboration, community engagement, and the transformative power of music in society. Our mission is to equip students with the tools to thrive in advanced study, performance, and music education, while enriching the cultural fabric of both the college and the East Texas region.
