The purpose of the Step Out Onto the Pathway to Progress is to provide students with a foundation of knowledge that supports preparedness for success and promotes learning, which will enrich students' educational experiences. The goals are:

QEP Goals

Goal 1: In order to better prepare our students for their first experience in college, first-time-in-college (FTIC) degree-seeking students will be required to enroll in a college-preparatory course, EDUC/PSYC 1300 Learning Framework, during their first semester of college at TVCC. Through the learning frameworks course, the students will be able to:
  • Student Learning Outcome 1.1: Demonstrate foundational models of communication by creating and maintaining a student journal, and by creating, scheduling, and revising a semester course calendar that identifies due dates and schedules study time for course requirements;
  • Student Learning Outcome 1.2: Demonstrate foundational models of communication by developing note taking and study skills to improve academic performance;
  • Student Learning Outcome 1.3: Demonstrate personal responsibility by identifying and strengthening emotional intelligence skills;
  • Student Learning Outcome 1.4: Demonstrate critical thinking by retrieving, analyzing, and synthesizing data into information on careers and future college pathways. 

Goal 2: By supporting an engaging and mandatory freshman orientation, students are welcomed to the TVCC campus and provided a tour of college facilities and community. Through the freshman orientation, the students will be able to:
  • Student Learning Outcome 2.1: Demonstrate personal responsibility by accessing and utilizing college technology resources for managing email, enrolling in courses, submitting course evaluations, and locating course grade
  • Student Learning Outcome 2.2: Demonstrate personal responsibility by identifying and utilizing college resources including library services, student success center, advising, and financial aid.
