Trinity Valley Community College
 
 
The Trinity Valley Community College Board of Trustees met in a special called meeting at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 13, 2014 in the Board Room of the Orval Pirtle Administration Building in Athens for the purpose of conducting a budget workshop.  The following members were present for the meeting:

1. President Forgey opened the meeting with prayer.
    
2. President Forgey presented the proposed college budget for the 14-15 fiscal year and provided an explanation for differences in current year budget and the proposed budget.

1.  Mrs. Kimball moved, seconded by Mr. Norville, that:

 
For the college district (excluding Palestine ISD) – the Board consider a proposal to adopt the tax rate of 9.995 cents per $100.
 
For the branch campus maintenance tax district (Palestine ISD only) – Consider a proposal to maintain the current tax rate of 5.0 cents per $100. 
 
Mr. Monk, moved to amend the motion, seconded by Mr. Stone, to change the rate  from 9.995 to 10.36.   The amendment to the motion passed 8 - 0.
 
The motion made by Mrs. Kimball, as amended, was then approved by the Board 8 – 0.

1. Mr. McGee moved, seconded by Mr. Day, that (excluding Palestine ISD) – Public hearings be held on Monday, August 25 at 7:30 p.m. and Monday, September 8, at 6:30 p.m. in the Board Room of the Orval Pirtle Administration Building on the Athens campus to consider a proposal to adopt the tax rate of 10.36 cents per $100.  For the branch campus maintenance tax district (Palestine ISD only) - because 5.0 cents per $100 does not exceed either the effective rate or the rollback rate, public hearings are not required and will not be held.  5.0 cents per $100 is the rate cap per the Branch Campus Maintenance Tax Agreement. Motion carried unanimously.

5.   Mr. Stone moved, seconded by Mr. Grant, the vote to adopt the tax rates of 10.36 cents per $100 for the college tax district (excluding Palestine ISD) and of 5.0 cents per $100 for the branch campus maintenance tax district (Palestine ISD only) be placed on the agenda of the regular monthly meeting scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Monday, September 22, 2014. Motion carried unanimously.
    
6.   Mrs. Kimball moved, seconded by Mr. Day, to adjourn the meeting at 8:47 p.m.  Motion carried unanimously.
