The Trinity Valley Community College Foundation has received a gift of $250,000 from Mr. Arlton White, to establish the Nancy White, MD Nursing General Scholarship Fund for TVCC students. The scholarship honors his late wife of 55 years, Dr. Nancy White.

Dr. White completed her undergraduate education at Baylor University in 1960, medical education at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in 1963, internship and residency in pediatrics at Children’s Medical Center in 1964 and 1966 respectively, and a fellowship in pediatric cardiology at Children’s Medical Center in 1968.

She worked for the City of Dallas at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center for 12 years before establishing her own private practice in the Preston Center area of Dallas. She retired in 2005, and passed away in 2016.  Dr. White was loved by her patients, who often returned later as adults with their own children as patients.

“We are so grateful for the generosity of Mr. White and thrilled to partner with him to honor his wife while assisting TVCC health science students in reaching their academic goals,” said Kristen Bennett, Ed.D, Vice President for Institutional Advancement and Executive Director of the Foundation at TVCC.

In addition to establishing the scholarship, Mr. White has also donated a 105-acre piece of property in Kaufman County to the TVCC Foundation. The property is located off State Highway 175 and Fair Road and has an estimated total value of just over $1 million. There are no plans for the property in the immediate future, but college officials have discussed possible options to utilize the property to provide additional workforce training for the Kaufman County area.

“The majority of the population growth in our college service area is in Kaufman County, and this gift of land has the potential to help us increase services to this community for years to come,” said TVCC President Jerry King, Ed.D.

Mr. White is a graduate of Texas A&M University and is retired from his career as a mechanical engineer at Texas Instruments.
