Evening HVAC Program Added

Workforce Education offers an evening program in Heating, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning (HVAC)

The Workforce Education Division is pleased to offer the inaugural semester of a night program in Heating, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning (HVAC) beginning in the spring 2018 semester. HVAC mechanics and installers install or repair heating, central air conditioning, or refrigeration systems. For the east Texas region, jobs in this career field are expected to increase by 29% over the next ten years with a median earning rate of $19.77 per hour. The first two classes in the program will meet two nights a week from 5:30 – 8:50 p.m. for 16 weeks beginning Wednesday January 17 and ending May 7. Classes will be held in the new Career & Technology building on the Athens High School campus.

These first two courses (6 semester hours) will lead to a 31 semester hour Certificate of Completion in Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning. 

Basic Electricity for HVAC (HART 1301 Section 4163) will be offered on Monday nights 5:30 to 8:50 PM by Mr. Cody McCleary. This course will teach the principles of electricity as required by HVAC, including proper use of test equipment, electrical circuits, and component theory and operation. Lab fee charged.

Air Conditioning Control Principles (HART 1303 Section 4164) will be offered on Wednesday nights 5:30 to 8:50 p.m. by Mr. Cody McCleary. This course will offer a basic study of HVAC and refrigeration controls, troubleshooting of control components, emphasis on use of wiring diagrams to analyze high and low voltage circuits; a review of Ohm’s law as applied to air conditioning controls and circuits. Lab fee charged.
