  • Elizabeth “Biz” Nelson is the Head of Theatre Design at Trinity Valley Community College. She is the recent past Co-Chair for the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) Region 6 (Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Louisiana, Arkansas).  Biz has also served as a KCACTF Region 6 Co-Chair for Design, Technology, Management (DTM).  In 2021, Biz was a KCACTF Gold Medallion Recipient.  The Gold Medallion is the highest recognition for service to educational theatre from the Kennedy Center.

She earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in Scenography from University of Kansas in 2010.  Scenography is a holistic approach to the study and practice of all aspects of design in performance. It also includes the design of lighting, sound, and costumes.  Her experience in having a program of equal weighted study and application of the three major theatre design/technical areas creates more opportunities to meet and cultivate student interest in the theatrical design/technical theatre field.

Biz has worked professionally as set designer and scenic artist for the Creede Repertory Theatre. Biz has also worked professionally in various production roles for other companies including Kansas City Repertory Theatre, Unicorn Theatre, and the Santa Fe Opera.
