The State of Texas has passed legislation that requires all Texas agencies to provide security awareness training to all its employees, officials, and extranet users with access to organizational data or systems. TVCC has implemented an awareness program from KnowBe4 that provides a training module specifically designed to meet the needs and requirements of Texas. 

Frequently Asked Questions:


1. Is this training really required?

Yes. This training is required by Texas State Administrative Code. Additional details are available here: House Bill (HB) 3834 (86R).
Reports documenting our progress are submitted to the State annually.

2. Who is required to complete the training?

Any user with access to a TVCC information system; this includes all faculty, staff, Board Members, and, consultant/contract workers.

3. How often do I need to complete this training?

The annual awareness training must be completed once a year. Additional modules may be assigned for specific training requirements.

4. How long will this training take me to complete?

The annual training module will take about 30 minutes to complete. 
The training is updated yearly with new content that will affect training times.

5. Do I have to do all the training in one sitting?

No. You can take breaks. The program will retain your progress. You will be prompted to resume your training from the position you left off when you return.  

6. What happens if I don't complete the training?

If the training is not completed you could face administrative and disciplinary actions. Access to TVCC's Information Systems will be restricted or removed until the training requirement is satisfied. 

7. What if I completed a training program with another organization or vendor?

The Texas DIR has approved multiple training programs from a variety of vendors that satisfy the State's requirements. You are only required to complete one of these programs to me this requirement.
TVCC accepts training certificates from 3rd party organizations that meet the following requirements:

The training program and modules are listed on the TX DIR Approved Training List.
The training was completed for the intended year as the requirement.

8. What training programs satisfy the State’s requirements?

9. What training is provided by TVCC?

TVCC provides an online training service from KnowBe4. The content is updated annually to include current and updated material.

10. How can I access my TVCC Security Awareness Training?

 * User accounts require MFA to access the training. This is a requirement to access other TVCC single sign-on resources.

11. How long do I have to complete the training?

Every year an email will be sent with specific completion dates.
In general, the training needs to be completed by May 15 of each year.

12. How can I request additional information?
