Associate Degree Nursing Program
The Associate Degree
Nursing program began in 1982, made possible by the
dedication of many citizens in an all out effort to improve
the shortage of nurses in rural areas. The first class
started with 36 students and the program expanded over the
years, with the largest graduating class of 124 in 2009. The ADN program is a 70 credit hour curriculum leading to an Associate Degree in Applied Science. Graduates will be recommended to the
Texas Board of Nursing to be approved to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN) to qualify as a registered nurse. Upon entry into practice, the Associate Degree Nursing graduate should be able to provide safe, competent nursing care for a group of patients with commonly occurring health problems in various health care settings. The TVCC ADN program is fully accredited by the
National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission
(3343 Peachtree Rd., NE, Suite 500, Atlanta, GA 30326,
Telephone Number: 404-975-5000) and approved by the
Texas Board of Nursing (512-305-7400).
The TVCC ADN program is a strong supporter of the Texas Organization for Associate Degree Nursing (T-OADN) and the National Organization for Associate Degree Nursing (N-OADN).
Current Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVNs) may enter the Associate Degree Nursing program through the Transition Pathway, begun in 1986 to improve articulation. The Transition Program is designed to validate and update the previous experiences and education of the Licensed Vocational Nurse. Upon successful completion of five semester hours in the summer, students enter the second year of the ADN generic program. A Paramedic-to-ADN Transition Pathway was begun in 2003. This program, similar to the LVN-to-ADN Transition Pathway allows paramedics with a year's experience who meet the admission qualifications to take transition courses in the summer and enter the second year of the ADN program.

The ADN curriculum includes classroom instruction, skills laboratory practice and return demonstrations, and clinical experiences working with clients in a variety of settings.
There is a selections process for both of these programs. For more information review the appropriate information in the ADN Program, LVN to ADN Transition Program and Paramedic-to-ADN Transition Program brochures. If you have any questions, contact us at ADN@tvcc.edu. |
