Courses Offered

Piano Class I
Demonstrate the use of correct fingerings, hand positions and technique appropriate for first semester piano.  Play music with melodic, harmonic and rhythmic accuracy.  Sight-read simple exercises each class period.  Play simple accompaniment patterns.  Perform a piece from the Baroque period.  Music Majors play selected assignments that correspond with those in Music Theory class.  Play all 15 Major scales in one octave, parallel motion and hands together and I/IV/V/I cadences.

Piano Class II
Demonstrate the use of correct fingerings, hand positions and technique appropriate for second semester piano.  Play music with melodic, harmonic and rhythmic accuracy.  Sight-read simple exercises each class period.  Perform a piece from the Classical period.  Music Majors play selected assignments that correspond with those in Music Theory class II.  Play 15 minor scales in one octave, parallel motion and hands together and i/iv/V/I cadences.

Piano Class III

Demonstrate the use of correct fingerings, hand positions and technique appropriate for third semester piano.  Play music with melodic, harmonic and rhythmic accuracy.  Sight-read medium level exercises each class period in varying time and key signatures.  Perform a piece from the Romantic period.  Music Majors play selected assignments that correspond with those in Music Theory III class.  Vocal majors will begin learning to play in open score using three voices.  Play all 15 Major scales in two octaves, parallel motion and hands together and I/VI/ii/V/I cadences.

Piano Class IV
Demonstrate the use of correct fingerings, hand positions and technique appropriate for fourth semester piano.  Play music with melodic, harmonic and rhythmic accuracy.  Sight-read more difficult level exercises each class period in varying time and key signatures.  Perform a piece form the 20th century.  Music Majors play selected assignments that correspond with those in Music Theory IV class.  Vocal majors will play a select piece in open score using four voices.  Play all 15 minor scales in two octaves, parallel motion and hands together and i/iv/V/V7/I cadences.
