Guidelines

Perkins V Grant funding provides opportunities for students pursuing Career and Technical Education programs and pathways to earn valuable credentials. TVCC designated a portion of these Federal funds to assist students in special circumstances to complete their technical education program.

TVCC created these 4 programs to assist students who fall into special populations defined by the Perkin V legislation. The 4 programs include:

1. Child Care Reimbursement Assistance
2. Transportation Reimbursement Assistance- Travel allowance
3. Laptop/ MIFI Loaner
4. Equipment Loaner

General Eligibility and Application Process:

1. Apply and be enrolled in TVCC as a student;
   1. Must be enrolled in an Eligible Workforce Education Program (See program list below)
   2. Enrolled in six (6) or more semester credit hours
   3. Maintain a 2.0 GPA
   4. Complete a current FAFSA
   5. Be a U.S. citizen or eligible nonresident
2. Students who self-identify in at least 1 of the special populations categories
   1. Individuals with disabilities
   2. Individuals from economically disadvantaged families, including low-income youth and adults
   3. Individuals preparing for occupation in nontraditional fields
   4. Single parents, including single pregnant women
   5. Out-of-workforce individuals
   6. Homeless individuals: Children and youths who are sharing the housing of other persons due to loss of housing, economic hardship, or a similar reason; are living in motels, hotels, trailer parks, or camping grounds due to the lack of alternative adequate accommodations; are living in emergency or transitional shelters; or are abandoned in hospitals.
   7. Youth who are in, or have aged out of, the foster care system
   8. Youth with a parent who is a member of the armed forces and is on active duty
   9. Individuals with other barriers to educational achievement, including individuals with limited English proficiency
3. Submit the Perkins Student Support Application.
4. Upon approval of the application:
   1. Student Support Assistance Agreements must be signed
   2. Program specific forms must be completed and returned
      1. (Program specific requirements are listed within the details of each program)

Upon Award of Perkins Student Support, Approved Students Must:

• Maintain a 2.0 GPA
• Maintain part-time (six (6) semester credit hours) enrollment - without excessive absences
• Contact Student Advocacy Department (PerkinsGrantInfo@tvcc.edu), BEFORE dropping any courses
  • If you drop below six (6) hours your grant benefits will be discontinued
• Submit monthly documents for the Child Care Program by last day of each month
  • August deadlines will be due on or before the 31st due to end of year requirements.
• Return all items by the designated end date.
• Re-apply each semester to continue the support programs

NOTE: Failure to adhere to the requirements may cause discontinuation of the programs.
