How It Works

  • Students enroll in approved TVCC courses through their high school counselor.
  • Credit is awarded simultaneously by both TVCC and the student’s high school.
  • Courses may be offered:
    • On the high school campus
    • On a TVCC campus
    • Through Distance Education (online or hybrid)

Home School Students

Students who are homeschooled should contact the Dual Credit Office to request the Home School Partnership Agreement and the Registration Instructions Packet.  The registration packet provides step-by-step guidance through the enrollment process and includes all required forms that must be completed and submitted to the Dual Credit Office.

Helpful Information

  • Studies show that dual credit increases the likelihood that a student will complete high school, and enroll in and persist in college.
  • Most academic courses are designed to transfer to Texas public colleges and universities. Technical workforce courses are primarily intended for certificate use or career preparation, and may not transfer to other institutions.
  • Enhances the academic record of college-bound high school students.
  •  Assists students in their transition into higher education.
  • Shortens the time needed to complete an undergraduate degree.

TVCC's general education courses are available to all 11th and 12th grade level dual credit students, as well as many of our vocational and workforce courses. 9th and 10th grade students' options, while a little less broad, still offer various opportunities to get ahead on early college learning. Any high school student with parent/guardian permission may enroll in dual credit courses, provided that they have met TVCC's admissions requirements and have the recommendation of their high school. 9th and 10th grade students do have some additional testing requirements. 

Each semester tuition is waived for up to two courses. Students are responsible for fees and instructional resources. Please see the Tuition and Fees Schedule for details. 

 

TVCC is proud to serve the following area Independent School Districts: Athens, Athens ECHS-Pinnacle, Athens Christian Prep, Brownsboro, Canton, Cayuga, Community, Crandall, Cross Roads, Edgewood, Elkhart, Eustace, Forney, North Forney, Fruitvale, Frankston, Kaufman, Kemp, LaPoynor, Mabank, Malakoff, Martins Mill, Neches, Poetry Community Christian, Rains, Scurry-Rosser, Slocum, Terrell, Trinidad, Westwood, and Wills Point.

Dual Credit students may be required to submit test scores. TVCC provides TSIA2 testing on three campuses and remotely.

The dual credit orientation process helps prepare students for what college level courses will be like, as well as ensure they are both mentally and technologically prepared for face-to-face and online classes.

Once admitted, Dual Credit students and their high school counselors will work together each semester to complete and submit their concurrent registration form for enrollment. Our dual-credit department is available to assist with class enrollment and making a plan.
