ATHENS, Texas — Trinity Valley Community College will offer Adult Mental Health First Aid training to faculty and staff, providing employees with practical tools to recognize when a student may be struggling and respond with confidence and support.
The blended training course will include approximately two hours of online instruction followed by six hours of in-person training. The first session is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 29, on the Athens campus, with the location to be announced.
“We’re excited to offer Adult Mental Health First Aid training to TVCC faculty and staff who are interested in learning practical tools to recognize when a student may be struggling,” said TVCC Mental Health Counselor Amanda Schmidt, M.Ed., LPC-S. “This training will help you respond with confidence, provide support, and connect students with appropriate resources. These skills can be valuable in any role that involves working with our students.”
The training will be offered regularly, giving more faculty and staff members the opportunity to participate. Each session will accommodate up to 30 participants on a first-come, first-served basis.
TVCC is able to provide the training with support from the local Mental Health Authorities of Kaufman, Anderson and Henderson counties.
“We hope everyone will have an opportunity to participate in this blended course,” Amanda said. “Thanks to the local Mental Health Authorities of Kaufman, Anderson, and Henderson Counties, we will be offering the training multiple times so more of our TVCC faculty and staff can participate.”
Employees interested in attending should check with their supervisor before registering, as the online and in-person components together require approximately a full workday to complete.
