SCHEDULES
Consult the schedule to confirm that a certain course is offered during any given semester. The tentative
schedule is as follows: EMT courses on the Athens, Palestine, and Kaufman campuses in the fall and spring
semesters; Paramedic I and Paramedic IV courses on the Palestine and Kaufman campuses in the summer
semester; and Paramedic II & III courses in a fall/spring sequence annually on the Palestine campus and the
Health Science Center in Kaufman.
EMT
Approximately eight hours of lecture/skills per week as well as a total of 24 hours in the Emergency Department
and 36 hours with at least three valid emergency runs with approved ambulance departments. There may be
additional class/skills times on Saturdays to meet the course requirements.
Paramedic I
Approximately 10 hours a week in class/skills, and a total of 128 hours in the hospital (including ER).
Paramedic II
Approximately nine hours a week in class/skills, and a total of 96 hours in diverse hospital clinical settings, and 96
hours on the Mobile Intensive Care Unit (MICU).
Paramedic III
Approximately eight hours a week in class/skills, and a total of 96 hours in diverse hospital clinical settings and 96
hours on the MICU.
Paramedic IV
Approximately three hours a week in class/skills and a total of 192 hours on the MICU.
Clinical experiences may be provided in Palestine, Athens, Crockett, Kaufman, Terrell, Rowlett, Sunnyvale,
Jacksonville and Canton. Clinicals are rotated to give the students a variety of clinical experiences. Students must
provide their own transportation to the clinical sites. Students must be prepared for both day and evening
rotations. The student must complete the clinical requirements during the semester. Students will be required to
do additional clinical shifts if they have not met the minimum number of required skills or team leads.
OTHER
Canvas is used to enhance the EMS courses to students must have computer and Internet access.
The initial fee for the National Registry Paramedic exam is included in lab fees for the last semester. Any fees for
subsequent exams are the graduate’s responsibility.
