ADVANCED PLACEMENT – EMT LEVEL
A student who has current certification from the Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS) or National
Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) as an EMT, but who did not complete EMSP 1501/1160 or
receive equivalent transfer credit from another college or university may receive credit for EMSP 1501/1160 if the
following advanced placement requirements are met:
1.
Submission of a copy of current certificate for EMT from TDSHS.
2.
Successfully pass a written evaluation at the EMT level with a grade of 75% or better, and
satisfactorily demonstrate skills proficiency at that level verified by a TVCC EMS instructor.
3.
Be accepted for admission by TVCC. Credit will be awarded and placed on the student’s academic
record only after the student has earned the equivalent number of semester hours at TVCC (six for
basic courses).
4.
The fee for administering the EMT advanced placement evaluations for the basic level is $50 which is
payable to the business office and is nonrefundable.
5.
The evaluation and testing fee (#2 and 4) will be waived if the student requests articulation within
one year of completion of the EMT courses.
ADVANCED PLACEMENT - ADVANCED EMT LEVEL
A student who has current certification from the Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS) as an
Advanced EMT, but who did not complete EMSP 1338/1356/1261 or receive equivalent transfer credit from
another college or university may receive credit for EMSP 1338/1356/1261 if the following advanced placement
requirements are met:
1.
Submission of a copy of current certificate for Advanced EMT from TDSHS
2.
Successfully pass a written evaluation at the Advanced EMT level with a grade of 75% or better, and
satisfactorily demonstrate skills proficiency at that level verified by a TVCC EMS instructor.
3.
Be accepted for admission by TVCC. Credit will be awarded and placed on the student’s academic
record only after the student has earned the equivalent number of semester hours at TVCC (eight for
intermediate courses).
4.
Be TSI complete or exempt in reading for both certificate and AAS tracks.
5.
The fee for administering the EMT advanced placement evaluations for the basic level is $50 which is
payable to the business office and is nonrefundable.
ADVANCED PLACEMENT – PARAMEDIC LEVEL
A student who has current certification from the Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS) as a
Paramedic, but who did not complete EMSP 2444/1355/2361/2330/2362/2434/2143/2363 or receive equivalent
transfer credit from another college or university may receive credit for EMSP
2444/1355/2361/2330/2362/2434/2143/2463 if the following advanced placement requirements are met:
1.
Submission of a copy of current certificate for Paramedic from TDSHS.
2.
Submission of copy of current certification of ACLS and PALS from American Heart Association and a
copy of current PHTLS or ITLS certification. PEPP certification may be used in lieu of PALS.
3.
Submission of documentation of two years recent experience as a paramedic along with letters of
recommendation from the current operations supervisor and medical director.
4.
Successfully pass a written evaluation at the Paramedic level with a grade of 75% or better, and
satisfactorily demonstrate paramedic skills proficiency, and satisfactorily demonstrate clinical
proficiency on simulated paramedic level scenarios as verified by a TVCC EMS instructor.
5.
Be accepted for admission by TVCC. Credit will be awarded and placed on the student’s academic
record only after the student has earned the equivalent number of semester hours at TVCC (24 hours
for paramedic level courses).
6.
Be TSI complete or exempt in reading for both certificate and AAS tracks.
7.
A non-refundable fee of $100 is paid to the business office for the paramedic level courses.
