COURSES OF INSTRUCTION
EXPLANATION OF COURSE NUMBERS
Each course is designated by a four-digit number. The first digit indicates the level of the course, whether freshman or
sophomore. The second digit indicates the semester hour credit of the course. The last two digits are used for
departmental sequencing. Therefore, English 1301 indicates a freshman course and three hour value.
Each course is also indicated by three numbers in parentheses. For example (4-3-3) represents four semester credits,
three hours lecture each week and three hours laboratory each week.
ART
ARTS 1301
Art Appreciation (3-3-0)
Analysis of art elements and principles as applied to various forms of visual expression; study of historical examples of
architecture, painting, sculpture, and minor arts directed toward an intelligent appreciation of masterpieces.
ARTS 1303
Art History (3-3-0)
A chronological analysis of the historical and cultural contexts of the visual arts from prehistoric times to the 14
th
century. Includes eras of art and architecture from prehistoric times, Egyptian, Greek, Roman, Byzantine, and Gothic.
BIOLOGY
BIOL 1406
General Biology I (4-3-3)
A study of protoplasm, its chemical and physical nature and energy buildup and release. A survey of the plant kingdom
is made with a study of representative groups of each phylum. Lab fee: $30.00
BIOL 1407
General Biology II (4-3-3)
A study of elementary zoology. The various phyla of animals are discussed with special emphasis placed upon
approximately three typical animals from each phylum. An introduction into the study of human anatomy. Lab fee:
$30.00
BUSINESS
ACNT 1303
Introduction to Accounting (3-3-0)
An introduction to bookkeeping and accounting in which the principles of double entry bookkeeping will be studied.
Emphasis is placed on journalizing, posting to ledger accounts, trial balances, financial statements, adjusting and
closing entries. Business forms, vouchers, interest and discounts are also studied. This course is designed for terminal
students and for students who have not had high school bookkeeping. This course is not designed as a transfer course.
BUSG 1301
Business Principles (3-3-0)
This course is designed to survey the entire field of business, build a business vocabulary, broaden the student’s
perspective of the business field, aid the student in selecting a field of specialization, and provide a background for
further study.
BUSG 1304
Introduction to Financial Advising (3-3-0)
A study of the financial problems which people encounter in their personal and family accounts. Includes topics on:
goal setting, financial planning, resume writing, record keeping, financial statements, budgets, insurance, taxes,
borrowing, housing, investments, retirement and estate transfer.
BMGT 1327
Principles of Management (3-3-0)
This course is designed to prepare students in the fundamentals of all phases of administrative, staff and operative
management. Successful management principles and techniques are given for all fields of business, which includes
business objectives, policies, functions, executive leadership, organization structure, operative procedures and control
procedures.
