Rotary Club Celebrates Literacy and Education Month with TVCC
In honor of Rotary Club’s Education and Literacy Month, Trinity Valley Community College (TVCC) administration, faculty, and staff were invited to the Rotary Club of Palestine’s meeting on Sept. 18 at the First Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.
TVCC President Dr. Jason Morrison provided updates on recent campus developments, including a $7 million facility to train Texas Department of Criminal Justice workers at the Palestine campus, a $1 million renovation of the Fine Arts Building at the Athens campus, and $2.5 million allocated for roof replacements and mechanical system upgrades.
“We are proud to invest in our educational programs and facilities,” Morrison said. “Our Fine Arts Building has been greatly transformed, and with the approval of our capital improvement projects, you will see continued advancements across all campuses.”
Dr. Morrison also highlighted TVCC’s enrollment growth, noting a 10.4% increase over last year.
“For the first time in at least four years, our freshman and sophomore enrollment has exceeded our dual credit numbers,” he added.
With recent renovations, increased enrollment, and expanded opportunities, TVCC’s economic impact on its five-county service area has reached $184 million.
“That’s a tremendous contribution,” Morrison said. “We’re advancing lives through employment, training, and education, demonstrating the real value TVCC brings to this region.”
During the luncheon, Deanna Frye showcased two of her artworks, discussing the artistic opportunities at TVCC, including studio classes, ceramics, and art appreciation. Additionally, Division of Fine Arts Chair Dr. Kristin Huggins, accompanied by Professor of Piano Kara Villines, performed two opera arias for the Rotary members.
