Self to Present at TCCTA Convention

Self

Trinity Valley Community College math professor Russell Self will present a breakout session at the 71st annual Texas Community College Teachers Association convention, March 1-3 in Frisco. Self will lead a discussion titled “Operationalizing HB2223 to Improve Success for Developmental Students.

Participants in this session will enter into facilitated discussions with peers about the classroom-level issues related to co-requisite implementation, impacts on faculty, and troubleshooting concerns. Newly-collected resources will be available for adaptation, as well as the data and resources your administrators referenced during regional workshops in October 2017 and February 2018.

Russell Self has over 20 years in education, all at TVCC. He has taught all levels of developmental and credit mathematics. He served as the developmental mathematics coordinator from 2005 to 2013, when he became chair of the Division of Developmental Studies. Russell has facilitated faculty workshops at TVCC and for Dana Center Mathematics Pathways events, including co-requisite design sessions both within and outside of Texas. He brings knowledge of a variety of co-requisite structures and considerations to the table.

Comprised of educators from every teaching discipline, as well as counselors, librarians, and administrators, the Texas Community College Teachers Association’s members come from all public and independent two-year colleges in Texas. TCCTA is—by far—the largest organization of postsecondary educators in Texas. The theme for the 2018 convention is “Bridging the Gap: Overcoming Obstacles and Strengthening Unity.”
