TVCC is very proud to offer high school students the opportunity to enroll in dual credit courses. Dual credit is a process where a high school student can enroll in TVCC courses and receive simultaneous college and high school credit. Dual credit courses can be taught on the high school campus with qualified teachers, on the TVCC campus, and through distance learning that includes internet or interactive video. Dual credit courses include both academic as well as technical workforce courses. The dual credit courses offer a pathway from high school to college, serving as an option to academic degree programs or college-level workforce education courses.

TVCC dual credit courses offer many benefits to the high school student, their parents, the school district, TVCC and taxpayers. Some of the benefits of dual credit are listed below:

• Studies indicate dual credit enrollment increases the likelihood that students will complete high school and enroll in college
• Academic dual credit courses are transferrable to Texas public colleges and universities.
• Enhances the academic record of college-bound high school students.
• Assists students in their transition into higher education.
• Shortens the time needed to complete an undergraduate degree.
• Reduces the cost of higher education by thousands of dollars
• Students in workforce courses and programs can learn skills enabling them to enter the workforce and earn higher wages benefitting themselves and the local economy.

TVCC waives tuition for dual credit students up to two courses per semester and some school districts pay all or part of the cost for dual credit classes. Qualified high school students may still register for 2017 fall semester dual credit classes. The last official day to register is Wednesday, August 23. However, late registration will be accepted until the first class day on Monday, August 28.
