On Thursday, July 11, Trinity Valley Community College (TVCC) unveiled exciting new plans to update and renovate the Fine Arts Building located on the Athens Campus.
This almost $1 million investment will give students the opportunity to see how much care TVCC puts into not only the students but the programs and facilities, TVCC President Dr. Jason Morrison shared during a live announcement broadcast on the TVCC Facebook page.
“Today is the first day of excitement for a new TVCC,” Morrison expressed. “We are going to start focusing on how we look and how we present ourselves to the educational world. This is a great day in the history of Trinity Valley.”
As Dr. Morrison begins to roll out plans for updates and renovations to TVCC campuses, the first step is to focus on the Fine Arts Building.
“We know what the Fine Arts program means to this school, the history, the traditions, and how it supports other programs on our campuses,” Morrison noted. "We have 31 national titles, and those titles could not occur without the support of our Fine Arts Department and the students invested in those programs.”
Morrison continued to explain that at both the Regional and National Basketball championship games, he received multiple comments and compliments about the TVCC Band.
“The announcers who were broadcasting the games kept talking about our band,” he continued. “Everyone kept saying, ‘This is what a tournament is supposed to look like!’”
Fine Arts & Kinesiology Division Chair, Professor of Voice, and Choir Director Dr. Kristin Huggins expressed her excitement for the upcoming renovations.
“We are excited to be unveiling the newly designed plans for our space,” Huggins said. “A space that holds decades of memories and music within its walls. This is a space where creativity has been nurtured and accepted. It’s a space where talents have been forged to a fine point.”
Though she is excited by the renovations, Huggins hopes incoming students, current students, and faculty can see how the update will impact them.
“With these renovations, we will have an updated, modern facility that matches our students' passion and dedication to the arts and our faculty's excellence in what they do,” she explained. “This investment tells our students that their pursuit of excellence in the performing arts is valued and supported. Today’s renovations signify more than an upgrade; they express a profound commitment to our students’ future and the growth of our community.”
TVCC Fine Arts student Abigail Vives, who attended the announcement and will be returning to TVCC in the fall 2024 semester, was proud to see the impact Dr. Morrison and Dr. Huggins had on the renovations.
“I am filled with joy and excitement to see the Fine Arts Building being remodeled, and I can’t wait to see all the changes made.”
The renovations have already begun, including repairs, remodeling, and repainting. The building will be ready for students on the first day of fall classes, with the work expected to be finalized by mid-September.
