The Phi Theta Kappa Chapter in Terrell made a generous donation to the Genesis Women’s Center in Kaufman County.
The chapter donated 14 boxes of supplies during their spring drive.
Chapter sponsor Rose Shirey said the group worked hard to get the boxes packed and ready for delivery.
“They worked hard at getting the boxes packed up and the president did the work of getting the donation slips picked up regularly and put in an excel spreadsheet for teachers to know who contributed,” Shirey said. “Some teachers offered bonus points for contributing.”
The items donated were cleaning supplies and hygiene/health and beauty items because our Historian called them and asked what they needed, according to Shirey.
The mission of the Genesis Women’s Center is to provide safety, shelter and support for women who have experienced domestic violence and to raise awareness regarding its cause, prevalence and impact.
“The PTK members chose the Genesis Women’s Center because of the amazing work they do for women in crisis, and it is in Kaufman County where we are located,” Shirey said.
In other campus news, the chapter inducted 15 new members on April 7 at the Terrell Health Science Center.
TVCC President Jerry King thanked Shirey for her new role as the PTK Terrell Campus Advisor and earning the Horizon Award at Texas PTK Convention.
