The Trinity Valley Community College building services department has identified a mold problem that is isolated to a few rooms in Cardinal Hall.

Upon initial assessment, the mold appears to be no more harmful than common household mold/mildew, however, student safety is our first priority and housing staff members have been working diligently to address the needs of students in the affected rooms.

The College is taking necessary steps to obtain samples for testing in order to determine the type and best course of action to eradicate the problem. Initial treatment has already begun and the building services staff has made this a top priority.

The source of the problem appears to be the ventilation in the bathroom areas, and the College is working with professional environmental consultants to determine what modifications need to be made in order to minimize the problem.

Mold exists everywhere, especially in warm, humid climates like East Texas, and while some people are sensitive to molds, others remain unaffected. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website provides an overview about mold and answers some of the common questions that arise.

If you have questions or concerns about a particular room that you feel may be affected in Cardinal Hall, please contact Vice President for Student Services, Dr. Jay Kinzer at 903-675-6220.
