The Texas Economic Development Council presented its annual Workforce Excellence Award for the 15,001-40,000 population category to the Terrell Economic Development Corporation for the Career and Technical Education program, a cooperative effort of the Terrell EDC and Terrell ISD, Trinity Valley Community College, the Terrell Excellence Foundation and local industries. The awards were presented during the TEDC’s 2015 mid-year conference, held June 3-5 in Galveston.
The awards are given each year to recognize exceptional contributions by a Texas community or region that has implemented successful workforce initiatives. The Career and Tech program was started in 2012 to provide students the opportunity to gain skills and certifications for entry-level employment in high-skill, high-wage jobs and/or to continue their education. Luanne Bourland, a counselor at TVCC’s Terrell campus, accepted the award along with representatives of the Terrell EDC.
