Trinity Valley Community College’s Spring 2015 in-service included a new wrinkle Wednesday morning.

All faculty and staff in attendance who have served in the military were asked to stand and each was presented with a red, white and blue cord that can be worn during graduation ceremonies. TVCC began the practice of awarding these recognition cords during fall graduation in December 2014. Each graduate wore the cord with their regalia and their branch of service was called out with their name.

“The TVCC Foundation is proud to provide these cords to our faculty and staff to wear at graduation or to keep as our gift,” said Vice President of Institutional Advancement Mary Nicholson, who is also director of the Foundation. “This was our way, as an institution, to thank all of our men and women here at TVCC who have served our nation. We are so proud of them.”

TVCC is approved by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board so that eligible veterans, servicepersons and certain dependents of veterans can receive VA educational benefits. For more information, contact TVCC’s Veterans Office at 903-675-6228 or e-mail veterans@tvcc.edu.
