“Multi-Hazard Emergency Management for Higher Education,” a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) course designed to prepare campus teams for emergency situations, will be held on the Trinity Valley Community College Athens campus September 12-14, 2017.
“The goal of the course is ‘To provide institutions of higher education with knowledge and planning strategies to better protect lives, property, and operations more effectively and efficiently within the context of comprehensive emergency management,’” said Judy Harmon, a Distance Learning Assistant at TVCC and certified FEMA trainer. “What it doesn't tell you in that course goal is that an integral part of putting an emergency operations plan together is in building relationships. TVCC is one of 17 colleges selected across the nation to host this training locally.”
The course is free and targeted to teams of campus personnel who have responsibility for creating, reviewing, implementing and exercising emergency operations plans (EOPs). Secondary stakeholders include community first responders and law enforcement and city/county emergency management. Interested organizations should contact judy.harmon@tvcc.edu by August 11 and include the name of the organization, primary contact information and each attendee’s name, email address and job position.
