PREREQUISITES FOR STARTING THE HEALTH OCCUPATIONS CORE COURSES
To be eligible to start the health occupations core courses (RNSG, SRGT, VNSG), students must have successfully
complete the required general education courses:

9. LICENSURE AND EXPERIENCE
Applicants for the LVN-to-ADN Transition Program must be currently licensed to practice in Texas as a LVN/LPN.
Applicants will document their nursing experience on the online application for the transition program.
Applicants with less than one year’s experience must complete the Application for Admission with Less than one
Year’s Experience (available on HSC website). A score of 10 or higher at the time of application is required for
students to be considered for the transition program with less than one year’s experience.
Applicants for the Paramedic-to-ADN Transition Program must be currently licensed or certified to practice in
Texas as a paramedic and have one year’s experience as a paramedic. Applicants will document their paramedic
experience on the online application for the transition program.
10. TRANSFER STUDENTS
Students who have successfully completed one or more semesters of a health occupations program at another
school and want to transfer in the middle of a program must meet the same admission requirements as other
nursing students, must apply to the college, submit a letter to the Health Science Center provost requesting
transfer and must attach a letter of recommendation from their last clinical instructor. Transfer students will be
required to successfully demonstrate pharmacological math competence (for nursing programs) and selected
skills before being approved for acceptance in a TVCC program. Transfer students may be required to audit a
previous semester if they have had more than one admission to another program. Contact the HSC provost at
972-932-5720 for more information.
11. HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
ADN PROGRAM
- High school students who graduated in 2017 should meet with the HSC counselor to make
plans to take the seven general education courses during the 2017-18 year. There will be a separate application
period for those students. Applications will be accepted from May 15 to May 26, 2018 for the fall 2018 program.
Students who have completed all seven courses and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 will be considered
using the same point system as the generic students. There will be a separate orientation for these students who
are accepted into the ADN program. High school students who graduate in 2018 should meet with the HSC
counselor to make plans to take the seven general education courses during the 2018-2019 year. There will be a
separate application period for those students. Applications will be accepted from May 15 to May 26, 2019 for
the fall 2019 program. The same point system is used.
PALESTINE VN PROGRAM
- High school students enrolled in a health science program who will graduate in 2018
should meet with their high school counselor to make plans to take the two general education courses during the
2017-2018 year. There will be a separate application period for those students. Applications will be accepted
from May 15 to May 26, 2018 for the fall 2018 program. Students who have completed both courses and have a
