June 30, 2020 COVID-19 Update

TVCC originally announced a tentative limited opening for Monday, July 6, however with the community-spread cases of COVID-19 rising, and Gov. Abbott adjusting the Texas reopening plan, the majority of campus buildings will remain closed to students and visitors until further notice.

Employees are strongly encouraged to wear masks while walking to/from their vehicle into the building, and in common areas like hallways and restrooms to help mitigate community spread of COVID-19.

Summer 2 face-to-face academic classes will be held in an online/remote or hybrid (both face-to-face and remote) format. Hybrid classes will meet face-to-face in a classroom as well as attending via Zoom/remote, either at home or in another classroom. All face-to-face classrooms will be marked to provide the CDC 6-foot distance between students. Cosmetology, welding, and health science classes will continue to meet face-to-face in their classrooms meeting safety CDC protocols. TVCC/TDCJ workforce classes will begin meeting upon TDCJ approval.

The Athens campus will have students moving in the residential halls for the Summer 2 semester. Student-athletes are required to have a negative COVID-19 test to ensure the safety of all students. Once the student is moved in, they will be screened daily to ensure rapid identification and treatment of any symptoms.

The Athens cafeteria will be open for meals with strict social distancing measures enforced while dining.

The bookstore will continue to offer online orders for textbooks with free shipping, and the Athens campus will also offer curbside pickup as well during regular business hours.

Students may meet with an advisor by email, phone or a virtual advising session via Zoom to enroll in classes. Visit the advising office webpage for information about these options.

Cardinal Pride Orientation will be held virtually via Zoom on July 9 beginning at 10:30 a.m. for all new Cardinals!

The Testing Centers will continue to be available by appointment only, with remote TSI testing options available for students. Visit the Testing Center webpage for more information.

Based on current NJCAA guidance, the football and volleyball team will begin official practice on August 1 as scheduled. Details will be determined regarding game schedules, seating in the stands, bus transportation, practices, and ensuring CDC protocols are met.

The fall semester will provide three options for students to enroll- online, hybrid, and face-to-face classes. Hybrid classes will allow students the opportunity to attend face-to-face with the faculty as well as a Zoom/remote format. Hybrid and face-to-face classes will have a limited number of students meeting at one time depending on the size of the classroom. For example, a class of 30 students will have 15 students meet in a classroom on Monday and the other 15 students meet in a classroom on Wednesday. Zoom/remote learning will occur when students are not physically in the classroom. The same format will be used for Tuesday-Thursday classes. This format will provide the benefit of students meeting face-to-face with faculty in addition to the Zoom/remote format. All classrooms will meet CDC guidelines. Evening classes will also meet in a hybrid format in a classroom on a rotating weekly basis. With this format, overall fall semester student enrollment will not be limited by class size or CDC guidelines. Most workforce/vocational classes such as welding, automotive, cosmetology, and others will be offered face-to-face. Students will also have the option to take most academic classes online in a distance learning format.
