Basic computer applications specific to business-related software. Emphasis on the concurrent
development of office skills and computer knowledge. This is a hybrid course with teacher/student
interaction and independent student work /instructor interaction.
Requires computer/web access.
POFM 1317 Medical Administrative Support (Front Office)

This is a lecture and lab course and may be offered as a hybrid C course with instructor led lab practices.
Student must enroll in each.
Instruction in medical office procedures to familiarize the Medical/Nursing Assistant student with the basic
operations/concepts/skills of the medical front office. This course emphasizes the interaction between
assistant working to assist the physician or other medical professional and the business operations of the
medical facility. This course includes fundamentals of: appointment scheduling, documents and maintain
medical records, patient communications, introduction to coding, introduction to billing, introduction to
collecting and third party reimbursement, an introduction to electronic medical records systems and
practices, and introduction into applying governmental health care guidelines. Emphasis is on customer
service and accuracy. Computer /web access required.
This course helps the student prepare for the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) certification exam.

This is a lecture and lab course and the student must enroll in each. Course is hybrid C. Student must have
computer and web access. .
This course includes skills to seek and obtain employment: resume preparation, interviewing skills, job
search, retaining employment. This course may be scheduled to meet only 4 times a semester. Lab Fee

Knowledge, skills, and abilities essential to provide basic care to residents of long term care facilities. Topics
include resident’s rights, communication, safety, observation, reporting and assisting residents in
maintaining basic comfort and safety. Emphasis on effective interaction with members of the health care
team, restorative services, mental health and social services needs. Lab fee.

Corequisites: NURA 1401, HPRS 1105, 1106, ECRD 1111, NUPC 1320, , 1291, and 1164
A basic study of the structures and functions of the human body. Lab fee.
NUPC 1164. Practicum – Patient Care Assistant/Aide. (1-0-7-0)
Corequisites: NURA 1301, l407, HPRS 1105, 1106, ECRD 1111, NUPC 1320, and 1291
Practical, general workplace training supported by an individualized learning plan developed by the
employer, college and student. Lab fee: $52. Lab fee includes liability insurance premium and drug
screening. Fee is subject to change if insurance premium changes.
