WebCT is an Internet based program that gives students and instructors access to each other. It can be used to teach a class entirely online or to supplement a tele-video class or traditional class. Below are a few items that should be of interest to you as an online instructor:

 Student Logins

Ø      All student logins are their last name followed by their first initial plus the last four digits of their social security number.  Your initial password is the last 4 digits of your social security number. All instructors and students should change this password to something unique but easy for you to remember.

Ø      Your login ID and password are case sensitive.  In other words, if your Login ID or password contains lowercase and/or capital letters, you must type in exactly what you see.

Changing your password:

Ø      Click once on the icon for changing passwords

Ø      A screen appears which requires you to enter your desired password twice

Ø      Click the Update button

Ø      A dialog box appears, click Continue

Ø      You should get a screen which says Password Change Successful

Ø      Click the Continue button

Ø      Click the next Continue button

Ø      A dialog box appears indicating Authorization Failed - you need to log in again, use your login ID and your NEW password.  This should get you back into your class.

Don't forget it is important to remember your password. If you forget your password you will not be able to access your course until it is reset by Network Services.

Cannot remember my password

***All instructors please stress to your students that if they forget their password they will not be able to access their course.  If they have lost their password the instructor for that class will need to contact Network Services so that we may change it for your student.

Use the navigation within WebCT

Ø      Use the navigation within WebCT to go from place to place instead of the back and forward buttons in Netscape.

Ø      You must totally close Netscape in order to log out of your class.  In other words, even if you have visited other sites on the web after working in WebCT, if you don't close Netscape, someone else can get into your class.

Standard Login Procedures for WebCT:

  • Find your course in the listing at http://courses.tvcc.cc.tx.us/webct/public/home.pl

You should see something like:

Ø      If you have your Login ID and password either supplied to you by the instructor or created by you, follow the following procedures for normal login.

Ø      Click once on the course name.  A dialog box asking for your user name (Login ID) and password comes up.  Enter them exactly as given to you.

Important

Ø      Your Login ID and password are both case sensitive.  In other words, GODOGS1 is different from godogs1 and both are different from GoDogs1.

Ø      Click OK.  This should get you into the Home page for your class.

Troubleshooting:

Ø      If you get a dialog box, which says that authorization failed, click OK to retry.  Then enter password.

Ø      If you click Cancel, you will get a screen explaining that you need authorization.  To get back to the list of classes, click the back button on the toolbar of Netscape.
