PRIOR to arriving to test, you MUST create an

Instructions on creating your account can be
accessed at
Creating an Evolve Account.pdf.
The HESI A2 entrance exam will be required for application to most of the
TVCC Health Occupations programs.
The exam consists of Reading, Grammar, and Math
sections. There is a four hour time limit on the HESI A2 administration. Once minimum scores are
earned, they will be good for 3 years.
Please read all of the information below, especially if you are mailing in your registration. This FAQ section should answer most, if not all, of the questions most examinees have asked regarding the HESI A2 entrance exam and the registration and testing procedures at TVCC.
The HESI A2 Registration Form is available here. In order to register by mail, you must print and complete the application and mail it in with a check or money order (payable to TVCC) for $35.
To obtain HESI exam dates, click on the campus name listed under "Testing Schedule" in the left hand column.
Please do not list a date that is not on the testing schedule!
The HESI A2 is a computerized nursing entrance exam required for applying to the ADN, VN (Palestine and Kaufman), Surgical Technology, and ADN/Paramedic Transition programs at the Health Science Center in Kaufman.
There is a 4 hour time limit for
examinees to take the HESI A2 that begins when
the instructions are read. Further information regarding the HESI test is available at http://www.hesitest.com/testing/exams/entrance.asp
>The Testing Center does not have study materials available for the HESI exam; however, the TVCC Bookstore in Athens does have the HESI Study Guide in stock for $34.95 plus tax. Copies of the study guide are also on reserve in the libraries on each of the TVCC campuses.
Pre-registration AND $35 payment are required in person or by mail in advance of the test date preferred. Examinees may register in person at the Testing Center in Athens, at the Counseling Offices in Terrell or Palestine, or by mail. You cannot register by phone or online for this exam.
If you choose to register in person, payment can be made by cash, check or money order (payable to TVCC), Visa, or Mastercard. Your appointment will be confirmed in person upon providing your receipt to the staff in the Testing Center in Athens or the Counseling offices in Palestine and Terrell.
If you choose to register by mail, send the registration form and payment (check or money order only payable to TVCC) to the Testing Center in Athens. The mailing address is printed on the form. Be sure to list two different exam dates you prefer. We will try to schedule you according to your first choice exam date; if we are unable to schedule either preference, we will notify you of the next best option. If you list an email address, you will be notified by email instead of by phone.
PRIOR to arriving to test, you MUST create an
account with Evolve (the HESI testing company).
Instructions on creating your account can be
accessed at
Creating an Evolve Account.pdf.
Seating is very limited on each exam date, thus we recommend registering well in advance of the date you prefer to test if it is close to the application deadline for any health occupations program.
See the testing schedule for each campus for dates. The HESI exam will be given several times prior to each application deadline, however seating is limited
on those exam dates, so do not wait close to the
program application deadline to sign up for the
exam. Exam dates are subject to change.
If you register in person, you will be told your appointment time and date or given a confirmation card at that time.
If you register by mail, you will receive an email (if you provide an email address) or phone call once your registration form and payment arrive at the Testing Center in Athens. If you have not received an email or phone call/message from us after 10 days from when you mailed in your registration form, please call the Testing Center in Athens to verify that we have received it.
Be sure that you provide a working email address that is regularly checked and has the spam settings set to allow receipt of emails from the tvcc.edu domain.
***It is the examinee's responsibility to phone the Testing Center (903.675.6385) at least 48 hours prior to the first choice provided to confirm appointment. Failure to confirm appointment by the examinee will result in loss of exam fee.
Testing Center in Athens: Exam time is 8:00 am (if morning session fills, then there will be a 12:30 pm session).
Palestine Campus: Exam times are ONLY at 8:00 am.
Kaufman HSC: Exam time is 8:00 am (if morning session fills, then there will be a 1:00 pm session).
There is a 4 hour maximum
time limit that begins when instructions
are being read to examinees. However, the average time most examinees take for completing the entire exam is two and a half to three hours. This can vary depending on your reading speed and amount of time to answer questions and if you take only the required sections or the entire exam.
The HESI A2 Exam will be given on three of the four TVCC campuses (Athens, Palestine, and Kaufman)
on specific dates posted on the Testing Schedule.
Beginning in November 2005, the HESI will no
longer be given in Terrell. To verify the exam location on the Palestine and Kaufman HSC Campuses where the exam will be given, speak with Sherry Landers in Palestine or Glada Norris in Kaufman.
Once minimum scores are earned, they will be good
for 3 years.
Please arrive
no later than 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment for check-in. All examinees must have photo ID on the day of exam to be admitted. We will provided scratch paper and pencils for examinees.
Outside calculators are not permitted to be used on the exam unless approved by the proctor prior to the beginning of the test session. A calculator is built into the HESI software and scratch paper is provided.
If for some reason you must reschedule, you must contact the Testing Center in Athens (903.675.6385)
no later than two (2) business days prior to your originally scheduled test date.
If you fail to cancel or reschedule less than two (2) business days in advance, you will be required to pay another $35 exam fee to reschedule.
As stated in the brochures for the health occupations programs, for scores to be considered for application to the health occupations programs at TVCC, you must wait two (2) months before retesting and may not test more than twice in an academic year (that includes the initial examination and the retesting). Regardless of the sections passed/not passed on the first attempt, all examinees will be required to retake all three required areas (grammar, math, and reading comprehension) again. Therefore, it is best to take the HESI as early as possible in the event a retest is needed.
There is an optional Anatomy & Physiology section that
you may take to assess your current A&P knowledge. If
your science
courses are over 5 years old and you make above a 75% on
the A&P section of this test, we will waive the 5 year
requirement. The student may only take the A&P section of
the HESI test to waive the 5 year requirement one
time. If
the student fails to make 75% on that section, he/she
must either take pathophysiology course or retake the
science courses. Therefore, do not
attempt this section for update purposes unless you are
well-prepared, as this is a one time only option.
Students who pass the A&P section of the HESI and need
their 5-year requirement waived must contact the Dean
after
getting selected to get the appropriate form completed.
Examinees are not required to attempt the A&P section of the HESI during the same exam session that they take the reading, grammar, and math sections for application
to the Health Occupation programs. However, if you
do not attempt it during the same test session as the
three required sections, you may be required to repay the
$35 exam fee to do so. Page last updated on
July 8, 2009.
