New Inservice & Volunteers
If you are not doing anything Friday, October 23 at 2:30 pm come by LA 105
to help us finish setting up the new tutoring lab. The time will count towards
your CRLA inservice if you are working towards that. And if you aren't, on
Wednesday October 28th there will be an inservice at 3:30 pm to go over the
CRLA requirements to become a certified tutor. The Wednesday the 28th
inservice will also count as a Part II inservice for those of you who need to
complete it. Thanks!

Trio Student Support Business Cards
If you would like to purchase
(at your expense) a set of TRiO Student Support
Services Tutor
Business cards from the TVCC printshop,
come by and see me for a letter of release.
Aside from the "wow" factor of having a business
card, they are often handy in that you can
give one to both the student you tutor and
faculty.
They are not expensive; I believe
only around $5.00 for 200 or so (ask Brian
Spruling for specifics).
But remember, you must come by my
office and receive a letter of release
signed by me to order the official cards.

There will be the annual BBQ
Bonfire Friday, October 30, 2009 from 5:00 pm
until 10:00 at Starekranch.
There is always great BBQ, sausage,
chili, cowboy beans, great desserts, drinks and
more! and if the wood isn't too wet, the big
bonfire with a little bonfire for smores.
You are welcome to attend for free.
A TVCC bus will be taken from campus to
the ranch is you need a ride.
Ride sign-up is in LA 103.
Family is also invited.
See the posters in the LA 103 lab for
more details.
Lab Rules: It
has come to my attention that there are some
lapses in tutoring lab procedures and rules I
need to draw attention to.
1.
There is no food or drink in the lab.
If you need to take a break, soothe your
parched throat, eat lunch...by all means do
so...JUST NOT IN THE LAB!!!!
2.
Cell Phone use even for texting is not
allowed.
The most obvious breach of this was
during a New Tutor Inservice when a tutor
supposedly helping out was texting while they
were in the actual inservice with me and four
other new tutors.
THIS SCREAMS "I AM NOT PROFESSIONAL."
If you want to be a peer tutor, do not do
it. If you want to text, leave the lab to do it.
3. As per
TVCC policy, children are not allowed in the
classrooms or labs except during special
events and occasional visits
Arboreatum'S Fall
Festival - Scarecrow Project
I want to congratulate all
students and staff who worked so hard on the
scarecrows for the Arboreatum's Fall Festival
last week.
If you haven't heard, they won Honorable
Mention, a neat achievement since the
competition was so tough and this was Student
Support Services's first time to enter.
Again congratulations.
PROBATION NOTICE!
Congratulations to the
tutors who are responding to the ListServ emails
at least once weekly as required of all tutors
(read your red tutor
packet!!!) and whose tutoring privileges will
continue. Your tutoring privileges will be
terminated if you do not respond to Ms. Starek
by October 23rd.
