Tutor Certification

TVCC Athens is in process of application for College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA)  International Tutor Certification Program.  This program is awarded to qualifying programs and has a twofold purpose:

  • Recognition of a tutor's commitment to continuing their in-service tutor formation.

  • Acknowledgement of their experience and achievements as a tutor.

CRLA Certification follows a tutor when they leave TVCC for other colleges and universities.  It is internationally recognized and indicates a level of proficiency at three levels of mastery:  Regular; Advanced; Master.  Each level involves ten hours of training and 25 hours of tutoring experience.

Even while a student at TVCC, Tutor Certification has its benefits.  Each level achieved will be recognized with a pay increase.  Faculty and students will be aware of your certification level; your credibility as a peer tutor will be documented.  More tutoring opportunities could result!

As you leave TVCC, your certification remains in effect and will be recognized by any CRLA participating institution. Tutor certification is a marketable skill; include it in your résumé.

Ms. Starek will keep tutors informed of our program's progress for certification.

Meanwhile, you can begin working towards your in-service and experience requirements today. Tutor certification will be retroactive for one year from date of certification.
