Cardinals romp in season opener, 83-29

The Cardinals coasted to an easy win in their season opener Monday night.
The Trinity Valley Community College Cardinals raced out to a 49-17 halftime lead on their way to an 83-29 blowout of Texas Wesleyan JV in their season opener Monday night in Fort Worth.
The Cardinals are scheduled to return to action Wednesday at home against Elevate AAU. Tipoff at Cardinal Gym is 8 p.m.
Three players scored in double figures for fourth-year coach Pat Smith’s TVCC squad, led by Chris Blake with 18. Keandre Derrick tossed in 13 and Ernest “Stretch” Watson finished with 10.
Stephon Mudiay and Darious Gatson just missed double figures with nine and eight, respectively.
The Cardinals are also scheduled to be at home Sunday against El Centro Community College. Game time is 4 p.m.
