Cards to host NEO in conference opener

The Cardinals open SWJCFC action at home Saturday against NEO. Game time is 3 p.m.
Southwest Junior College Football Conference action kick offs off Saturday for the Trinity Valley Community College Cardinals. They host Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College’s Golden Norsemen in a 3 p.m. start at Bruce Field.
Coach Brad Smiley’s Cardinals, No. 7 in this week’s NJCAA rankings, take a perfect 2-0 mark into the game, owning wins over Dodge City Community College and Cisco Junior College.
NEO is 1-1 with a win over Arkansas Baptist College in its last outing and a loss to Hutchinson Community College in its season opener.
This will be the 28th meeting between the Cardinals and Golden Norsemen. NEO leads the series 15-12, having won seven times in 11 meetings this decade. The Cardinals were a 48-29 winner last year.
Both teams are scheduled to be on the road next week. The Cardinals travel to Cisco (7 p.m.) and the Golden Norsemen are at Arkansas Baptist (3 p.m.).
The Cardinals’ next home game is Saturday, Oct. 3, when third-ranked Navarro visits Bruce Field and TVCC celebrates Hall of Fame Day.
Saturday’s TVCC-NEO game will be broadcast by Palestine radio station KYYK (98.3 FM) and streamed online at www.youreasttexas.com.
