Cardinals games to be broadcast live

Friday, September 19, 2008

Radio station KYYK is now broadcasting Cardinals football on the Internet.

The Cardinals’ first game of the season is at 7 p.m. Saturday at Bruce Field against Dodge City. When the Cardinals kick off, radio station KYYK will be broadcasting the game on the airwaves and the Internet.

For the fifth year in a row TVCC football can be heard on KYYK 98.3 FM.

This season the Cardinals radio broadcasts can also be heard on "Your east texas.com." To get to the internet broadcast, log onto www.youreasttexas.com. The website features news, sports, and information around the clock and those who log in can listen to the broadcast by clicking on to KYYK.

Veteran sportscaster Gary Richards will spearhead the broadcasts.

Richards, a Grapeland native, has spent most of his career covering high school and college sports.

From 1975 to 1984 Richards was the voice of Marshall High School and broadcast East Texas Baptist University games in Marshall. From late 1984 to 2002 Richards broadcast Nacogdoches High School and Stephen F. Austin State University games.

Richards spent 12 years as voice of the SFA Ladyjacks on Q 107. The Ladyjacks made appearances in the Div. I basketball playoffs all 12 years Richards did the play-by-play.

Richards also spent time covering Lumberjack football and basketball, including broadcasting television play-by-play on a series of SFA football games televised in the Nacogdoches/Lufkin area.

In 2004 Richards began his coverage of TVCC with the broadcast of the Lady Cardinals at the national tournament in Selina, Kan., where the Lady Cardinals claimed the national basketball title with a perfect 36-0 record. Since 2004, KYYK 98.3 FM has broadcast numerous TVCC football and basketball games.

Richards is assisted on football broadcasts by Mike Peek. Peek, who is also the TVCC director of student activities, provides color commentary and statistics. Peek has also worked for many years as a high school football official, giving him a unique knowledge of the game.
