Privileges & Rights

Access to the college's Local Area Network (LAN) and the Internet is a privilege, NOT a right.

Show your current TVCC ID upon entering the computer room to the LRC staff in the computer room.  (Your ID can be requested by any college personnel, at any time.  Please see back of ID for more information)

The Trinity Valley Community College LRC computer room is for TVCC college credit, Adult Education students and TVCC employees only.  No one may accompany the user into the computer room.  This includes children, friends, etc…

No food, drink, cell phones or loud conversations will be permitted in the computer room.  Those engaging in that behavior will be asked to leave.

Computers will be shut down 15 minutes prior to closing the LRC.

The computers are available to the students for research homework, and preparing assignments.  If the lab is full, the person who has been in the lab the longest period of time NOT doing college-related work, will be asked to give up their work station.  The priority for computer use is as follows:

1.      Research

2.      Homework

3.      Classroom assignments

4.      Adult Education use

5.      E-Mail

6.      Personal use

The computer systems, facilities, and accounts are owned and operated by Trinity Valley Community College.  The college reserves all rights including termination of services without notice to the computing resources, which it owns and operates.

Unacceptable behavior and use of the computer room include, but are not limited to the following:

1.      Damaging or destroying equipment, software, or data belonging to the library or to other users, including, adding or downloading, altering or deleting files on library workstation hard drives.

2.      Unauthorized copying of copyrighted materials.

3.      Violating software license agreements.

4.      Violating computer system or Network integrity, including attempts to bypass 

Network security functions, obtain passwords, or alter the configuration of LRC workstations in anyway.               

5.      Harassing others.

6.      Using TVCC computers for illegal activities.

7.      Using TVCC computer resources to access, view, or distribute sexually explicit pornographic materials constitutes a violation of college policy.

8.      Developing a web page is not permitted in the LRC without approval.

9.      Use of TVCC computers to gamble.

10.  Chatting or use of an instant messenger or “pager”.

11.  Patrons involved in accessing or delivering materials (including bulletin boards) that are deemed to be harmful, immoral, wasteful, or offensive by the LRC staff will be required to justify their use of the library computers for these reasons.

12.  The use of computers to advertise or sell products for commercial use is prohibited.

13.  Yelling at, threatening, or harassing any LRC staff member.

Failure to abide by these rules will be grounds for dismissal from the LRC Computer Room

The systems have the ability to read mail.  While reasonable attempts have been made to ensure the privacy of accounts and electronic mail, this is no guarantee that accounts or electronic mail is private. TVCC has the obligation to respect the privacy of a user's files, electronic mail, and printer listings to the best of its ability.  With reasonable cause for suspicion, TVCC has the right to monitor any and all aspects of a system to determine if a user is acting in violation of the policies set forth in this document or as stated by law.  Although each user has a right to freedom of speech, harassing or defamatory material may not be sent via electronic mail or posted to electronic bulleting boards, mews groups, etc.  Use of the electronic communications facilities to send fraudulent, harassing, obscene, indecent, profane, intimidating, or other unlawful messages is prohibited.  Users will not aid, abet, or act in conspiracy with another to violate any part of these policies, rules, and conditions.

Starting any computer application or software on the LRC's computers signifies agreement with the Library's rules for computer use.
