Developmental Mathematics classes have certain basic
rules that are governed by the State of Texas.
The most important of these and some of the rules particular to my
classes are given on this page. The
information about attendance and others can be found in the
College Catalogue in more detail.
Attendance: The level of attendance is determined by the
State, and is as follows.
The maximum number of absences
allowed will be the equivalent of three weeks of school. In other words, you may miss a maximum of 9
hours per semester. This translates to 6
absences . Any student who reaches this limit will be
dropped from the course, and subsequently dropped from all other classes for
that semester. There will be no
make-ups for absences in this class.
Late policy: Arriving late three times will be counted as
one absence, and any student who arrives 10 or more minutes late will be counted
absent for that day. There will be NO
exceptions.
NO CELL PHONES. THEY MAY NOT BE
USED AS CALCULATORS
NO ELECTRONIC
DEVICES OTHER THAN A BASIC 4 FUNCTION CALCULATOR
NO GRAPHING OR SCIENTIFIC CALCULATORS WILL BE ALLOWED
Assignments
and tests:
Each day there will be an assignment
for the material covered. These assignments are due on the
date indicated on course compass, and must be completed before the test.
You must show your work and put all of your assignments in a notebook which will
be periodically checked. You will not be allowed to take a test until all
of the HW for that chapter has been completed with a score
of 100%.
Every chapter will have one test, and
these tests with the comprehensive final exam will be averaged together
to get your grade. A minimum average of 70
must be obtained to pass this course. DVII students must pass each
test with a 70 or better. You may retake any test, but this
must be done in my office. You will be allowed
only one retake per week. No
student will pass this course without passing all of the required tests. If you do not complete this course or
pass THEA during this semester, you will be required to repeat it until you do
fulfill one of the above conditions.
Please feel free to take
advantage of my office hours to get help, make up tests, or for any information
you may need. There are also tutors
available in the tutoring lab to help in your success. Please also remember that these classes are
designed not only to correct the deficiencies you may have in mathematics, but
also to help you become a more effective student in the other courses taken at
the college level.
