A bit about me...
Back when I was trying
to figure out what I wanted to do with my life, if someone had told me I was
going to be a college professor someday, I would have told them they were quite
simply completely and utterly insane. In fact, I am pretty sure some (as in
every single one) of my high school teachers would have needed medical attention
from laughing until they passed out at the thought of me doing much of anything
having to do with education (getting or giving)! Well, it took me a while to
figure it all out, but here I am...
I joined the Navy after high school and flew all over the Pacific and Indian
Ocean keeping track of Soviet submarines. The Navy was a great life but the long
sea tours were tough so I got out after 8 years and took a job with a company
that created training programs for corporate jet pilots and other high-tech
aviation customers such as the military and NASA. From there I took positions as
director of training and support for a couple of different nation-wide companies
eventually ending up as vice president of consulting services for a nation-wide
technology training consulting company. I was getting really burned out because
of the 60-70 hour weeks with LOTS of nights and weekends spent dealing with this
or that crisis…and the stress wasn't doing my blood pressure any good. I decided
I needed a change so I abandoned Dallas, moved to a log cabin over by Cedar
Creek Lake and started my own consulting company. Within a few months I found
myself once again working in Dallas…and putting in 60-70 hours per week again
even though I was my own boss! I decided I needed to do something VERY different
so I took a job as a computer science teacher at Athens High School. I really
loved working with the kids and quite a few of my former students show up on my
class rolls or come by for a visit. After a few years at AHS, the good folks
here at TVCC asked me if I would like to teach a few night classes. After a
couple of semesters I came on board full time.
I am married to the
world's best wife and have a teenage son named Cody. We also include our yellow
lab, Chinese pug, and chow mix in our family! We enjoy the quiet life in
the country. Our idea of a great weekend is heading out on back roads to now
where in particular. My wife loves curling up with a good book and Cody and I
love hunting and fishing.
Soooo…here I am! I can't believe it took me so long to figure out being in the
classroom (on campus or in cyberspace) is what I love!
