Course Description: This is a first
course in statistics, designed to meet the needs of
business, education, and behavioral science students.
Included are the following topics and their applications in
various fields: statistics vocabulary, graphs, mean,
variance, standard deviation, probability, binomial
distribution, normal distribution, statistical inference,
and linear regression.
Exams: Seven 100 point tests
(including a comprehensive final exam), approximately evenly
spaced throughout the semester will be given. The final exam
may count twice – replacing any student’s lowest test score
if it is higher, as well as counting for itself.
Homework:
Homework will be assigned for most class meetings and will
be accepted for full credit at any time on the due date.
Homework that is late but turned in by the time of the unit
test on that material will receive reduced credit (8 points
maximum instead of 10) unless OK’ed by the instructor, at
the discretion of the instructor, when a student provides a
very good reason for the lateness of the work. The one
lowest homework score will be dropped before a percent
correct is calculated. This homework percent, will then
count 100 points toward the final grade. No substitution can
be made for the homework grade.
Grading:
Students will need the following totals to receive the
respective final grades
A
720 - 800
B 640 - 719
C 560 - 639
D
480 - 559
