STUDY PROMPT #3 IS A CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT PROJECT

(Remember that this is a project based class rather than a class that is testing based.)

(This will be one third of your course grade)

Due Date:  April 28

This textbook is not a curriculum book but there are many curriculum resource development books available to you.

You have not been guided through the safety nor the nutrition part of your textbook, but I don't want to wait too long to give you this assignment because it will take some planning and time.

Instructions

bulletSelect a project (a real life experience) that you can do that relates to this course.  You could prepare lessons plans for units that relate to this course to use with young children. You could build yourself a resource file of places that you can refer children and parents when they need nutrition, health and safety assistance or information.  You could do an extensive research project on career related to this field and search it out in about 3 states.  You choose.

bulletHow big a project does his have to be?

That is really your decision, but it does need to be something equivalent to a       lesson plan on a related topic that would last one week (including number activities, language activities, art activities, etc. on a nutrition, health or safety             topic.)  Or, what are the nutrition, health and safety requirement for day care      centers in 3 states in the United States of your choice--and compare them in a   summary.  Or, 3 display plans for your local "Food Pantry" or "school cafeteria",         etc.  Or, a staff development plan for an organization that works with children on           "how to stop the contagious process of illnesses and blood borne diseases".  Pick            something that fits your career and really do it.

bulletHow do I turn it into the instructor.  And, what do I turn in.

                  *          I need a copy of your plan (or your search from information)

                        *          Turn in your work (if it is a writing type project) via mail or

email.  Or, take pictures of it if it is a participation project--you                                      teaching children the lesson plans, pictures of your displays, etc.                                                  These can be mailed in or sent via email.

                        *          Ask a professional to evaluate your project.  (A teacher, a day care                                           administrator, a Headstart administrator, a doctor, etc.) and send                                               that evaluation in with your project plan and materials.  Below is

an evaluation form to be used.  Print it off for the professional who                                 is assisting you.
