POFI 2431


Course Description
Prerequisite: POFI 2440. A continuation course designed to provide experience producing complex documents using advanced word processing functions of Word 2002 for Windows software. The course focuses on advanced Word features along with desktop publishing terminology and concepts. Topics to be included are: page layouts, memos, agendas, press release, letterheads, envelopes, business cards, certificates, calendars, resumes, brochures, promotional documents, web pages, presentations, newsletters, reports, and manuals.
Textbooks
Microsoft Advanced Word 2007: Desktop Publishing, Signature Series, by  Arford, and Burnside, EMCParadigm, 2007, ISBN: 978-0-76383-118-9

Also, each student will need additional 3 1/2 - inch diskettes that are double sided, high-density (approximately 5 to 11 diskettes) or a flash drive to save data to.

Methods of Evaluation
This is an Internet class. This means that you do all your work on your computer. To be successful, you will need to spend from 4 to 6 hours each week working on your assignments. Maybe more if you are a slow typist. If you need to use a computer on campus, lab hours will be posted outside the lab doors the 2nd week of the semester.

You will work through 3 parts or modules to complete the course. At the end of each Part, you will take a test. Your module grade will consists of the following:

  1. Performance Assessments (problem test)      - 33%
  2. Assigned problems (10 problems from Text) - 50%
  3. Theory Test (written test)                             - 17%

To be successful in the course you need to do the following:

  1. Work on assignments each week.
  2. Read the assigned chapters before doing the assigned problems.
  3. Complete and submit assignments when due.
  4. Complete all units tests as required.
