ADVANCED WORD PROCESSING

POFI 2440


Course Description

Prerequisite: POFI 2440. A continuation course designed to provide experience producing complex documents using advanced word processing functions of Word 2007 for Windows software. Students will continue to develop accuracy, formatting, and document production skills. Emphasis is placed on learning and applying word publishing and macro functions while applying proofreading and editing skills.

Textbooks

Microsoft Word 2007, Signature Series, by Nita H. Rutkosky, EMCParadigm Publishing, which includes a student CD. Also, each student will need four 3 1/2 - inch diskettes that are double sided, high-density (1 for each unit and 1 for testing).

Methods of Evaluation

This is an Internet class. This means that you do all your work on your computer. To be successful, you will need to spend from 4 to 6 hours each week working on your assignments. Maybe more if you are a slow typist. If you need to use a computer on campus, lab hours will be posted outside the lab doors the 2nd week of the semester.

You will work through 3 units or modules to complete the course. At the end of each Unit, you will take a test. Your module grade will consists of the following:

  1. Theory Test (written)                                   - 20%
  2. Performance Assessments (problem tests)  - 40%
  3. Skill Assessments (problems from Text)     - 40%
To be successful in the course you need to do the following:
  1. Turn in assigned problems when due. Don't get behind.
  2. Read the assigned chapters before attempting your work.
  3. Complete all theory tests and units tests as required.
