PREREQUISITES: Score higher than 219 on THEA or greater than 16 on the Pre-THEA or completion of Developmental Studies 0309.
COURSE DESCRIPTION: A review of elementary algebra by topics necessary to prepare students to continue with more advanced courses in mathematics. Topics that will be stressed are factoring, rational expressions, solving quadratic equations, and evaluating roots and radicals. Chapters discussed are 13, 14, and 16.
COURSE COMPETENCIES: Upon successful completion of this course, a student must be able to demonstrate competence in the following areas:

ATTENDANCE: Students will be counted absent if not in class for any reason. If a student is away on a college sponsored trip or absent due to circumstances beyond his/ her control, he/she will be allowed to make up the absence with instructor’s permission. All students are required to attend 80% of this class. Students missing more than 2 classes will be dropped from the course. Please understand that once dropped, you will STAY DROPPED, NO EXCEPTIONS. Students whom are THEA bound will be dropped from school. Non-THEA bound students will be dropped from this course only. This is your responsibility to find out which applies to you.
GRADING: Grades will be based on points accumulated from 3 Chapter Tests (50%), grades from homework (20%), and the Final Exam (30%). Homework is assigned at most class meetings and will be accepted any time or on the day the chapter test is given. Homework must be completed before the test can be taken. Students will need the following averages to receive the respective grades below. Students will receive an F, NO EXCEPTIONS, if less than half the material (homework and chapter tests) is all that is completed.
NOTE: All homework and chapter tests must be completed before the week of the final exam. Please staple assignments in order and please be neat. No pens.
A = 90 B = 80 – 89 C= 70 – 79 IP = 69 or less F = lack of effort.
