SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION PROCESS & QUESTIONS ASKED

  • How did this endowed scholarship program begin?

    bullet

The first campaign in the history of TVCC was started in 2002. The
goal was to begin raising funds to assist first-time, full-time entering
students from our service area to attend TVCC. TVCC wishes to
reach out to all qualifying students in our service area and ensure
that they have the opportunity to attend college. This scholarship
program is the first step toward that goal.

  • What is the purpose of the scholarship?

    bullet

To attract outstanding students, TVCC would like to offer a scholarship
to qualifying applicants, not only graduating high school students but
also to "non traditional" students. Our focus is to offer this opportunity
to first time enrollees. Recipients will be required to meet certain criteria.

  • How can the scholarship be used?

    bullet

The scholarship award may be used to defray costs of tuition, fees and/or
books. The scholarship will be a one-time award that is not renewable
    for subsequent semesters.

  • Who is eligible to apply?

    bullet

Any first time, full time TVCC student who is a resident of the
    TVCC service area.

  • What criteria are required?

    bullet

The student must meet all TVCC admission requirements as found in the
TVCC catalog. The student must also be a first time, full time entry student
to TVCC. (Concurrent or Dual Enrollment attendees are considered "first time"
students.) The student must reside in the TVCC service area. This area is
geographically made up of : Athens, Brownsboro, Canton, Cayuga, Crandall,
Cross Roads, Edgewood, Elkhart, Eustace, Forney, Frankston, Fruitvale,
Kaufman, Kemp, LaPoynor, Mabank, Malakoff, Martins Mill, Neches,
Palestine, Rains, Scurry-Rosser, Slocum, Terrell, Trinidad,
    Westwood and Wills Point.

  • What is the application process?
    bullet

The applicant must complete and submit the scholarship application along
with three completed recommendation forms. The recommendation forms
are to be completed by three different people that can give a fair evaluation
of the qualities of the student. This information will assist the scholarship
committee in making its decision. Examples of references could include teachers,
counselors, supervisors or pastors. Family members may not be considered
    as references.

    bullet

The applicant must submit either a certified copy of his/her high school
transcript of all courses completed to date or GED scores and other college
    transcripts.

    bullet

The applicant must submit a typed essay (500 words or less) explaining
their academic goals and objectives. The applicant must further explain
why he/she is deserving of the scholarship.

  • Are there ongoing requirements after the award is granted?
    bullet
