                                    ISBN: 0-07-302340-X

Course Goals

B.         Learn to operate by touch the ten-key numeric keypad.

C.        To achieve your highest speed accuracy levels by the end of the instruction period on a 2-minute timed typing.

Method of Evaluation

The final grade will be determined by the following criteria:

Three two-minute timings from Lessons 11-20 using the following scale:

            A = 35+ words per minute; error limit 5

            B = 30-34 wpm; error limit 5

            D = 20-24 wpm; error limit 5

            F = 19 and below; error limit 5

Your first 2 timed writings must come from 2 different lessons. Example: one grade from Lesson 11-14 and one grade from Lessons 15-19.

Your third timed writing will come from Lesson 20.

If you can not attain the 5 error limit, 2 wpm will be deducted for each error over the 5 error limit.

The 3 timed writing grades will be averaged to get your Final Grade.

Working on Lessons/Exercises

If your goal for the course is to learn to type or relearn the keyboard then you need to start with lesson one and type each drill twice and proceed through the lessons from 1 to 20. Follow the Friday Due Dates on the calendar.

If your goal for the course is to increase your speed and accuracy then you need to go to Lesson 11 and spend most of your time on the timed typing drills in each lesson from Lessons 11 to 20. The last drill in each lesson is a 2-minute timed typing drill. Follow the Saturday Due Dates on the calendar.

No matter what your goal for the course is, you need to submit your timed typing scores from Lessons 11 to 20. Your best timing from Lessons 11-14, your best timing from Lesson 15-19, and your best timing from Lesson 20 will be averaged to get your final grade. The following scale will be used:

·         A = 35+ words per minute; error limit 5

·         B = 30-34 wpm; error limit 5

·         C = 25-29 wpm; error limit 5

·         D = 20-24 wpm; error limit 5

Sending Student Data

Refer to the Software User's Guide, p. 20, topic 2.7.4.

The Distance-Learning configuration allows you to upload your GDP data files to the Instructor Management Web site and receive back information from your GDP instructor. In order for the distance-learning configuration to work properly, the following conditions must be met:

·         Your computer must use a MAPI-compliant email system. Email systems such as Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Express are MAPI-compliant. AOL and CompuServe are NOT MAPI-compliant.

·         Your system must have a default email address. The default email address is the one marked with "(default)" in the Mail settings in Window's Control Panel.

·         Your instructor's email address must be correct. Your email address in your installation and the email address used by your instructor to register you on the IM Web site must be identical and correct in your settings.

·         Your instructor must registered you on the IM Web site before you can submit your data.

At any time while logged on to GDP in the Distance-learning configuration, you can send updated information to the Instructor Management Web site, as follows:

1.     Click the Update button on the toolbar to open the Update dialog box.

2.     Choose which files to send to the IM Web site:

o        Update All will send a complete set of your data files.

o        Update New will send just the files you have worked on since the previous update.

3.      At the end of every GDP session in the Distance-Learning configuaration, the program prompts you to send updated work to the instructor in case you did not send updated data during the GDP session.

Sending Data with Non-MAPI Compliant System

If you do not have MAPI-compliant email, you can still send your student data to the Instructor Management Website so that you can use the GDP software in a distance learning mode.

If you do not have a MAPI-compliant email program, you cannot use the UPDATE feature in GDP.

Instead use the EXPORT feature to export your work to the IM Web site.

Here is the procedure:

1.     When you finish working, select Export Student Data...from the File drop-down menu.

2.     Click the Browse button, choose the desired location to save the file, and click OK.

3.     Select the file to be exported and click Export. The exported files are stored as one compressed file with the extension of .EXP.

4.     Open your email program and attach the *.EXP file to the email message and send it to gdpupload@glencoe.com
