I. COURSE NAME/NUMBER:

 

            ADVANCED WORD PROCESSING / ITSW 2431

 

II. COURSE DESCRIPTION:

 

            Prerequisite: Word Processing I (POFI 2401). A continuation course designed to provide experience    producing complex documents using advanced word processing functions of Word 2003 software.            Students will continue to develop accuracy, formatting, and document production skills. Emphasis is        placed on learning and applying word publishing and macro functions while applying proofreading and             editing skills.

 

III. MATERIALS OF INSTRUCTION:

 

            Microsoft Word 2003, Signature Series, by Nita Rutkosky, Paradigm Publishing, Inc., 2004, includes a          CD.  ISBN:  0-7638-2084-9.

 

IV. PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES:

 

$       Creating footnotes and endnotes.

$       Merging documents.

$       Sorting and selecting text.

$       Formatting documents with special features, such as: inserting line numbering, symbols, bookmarks, comments, and animating text

$       Adding visual elements.

$       Using WordArt.

$       Creating and modifying Styles.

$       Formatting with macros.

$       Managing documents.

$       Creating specialized tables and indexes.

$       Preparing forms.

$       Working with shared documents.

$       Sharing data between programs.

$       Using XML in Word 2003

 

V. COURSE COMPLETION REQUIREMENTS:

 

·        Read the assigned chapters before starting on the assignments.

·        Submit the assignments when due.

·        Submit the tests when due.

·        Be aware of the due dates and deadlines and abide by them.

·        Do not get behind.

 

 

 

3 Parts or Modules in the Course

 

            You will work through 3 parts or modules to complete the course. At the end of each Part, you will take            a      

            test. Your module grade will consists of the following:

 

      a. Theory Test (written online)

      b. Performance Assessment (Problem test – 5 assignments)

      c. Skill Assessments (15 Assigned problems from Text – daily grade)

 

Due Dates and Deadlines

 

      There is a due date and a deadline for each Part.

 

      Unit 4   - Due end of 5th week

                  - Deadline: End of 6th week (No work accepted for Unit 4 after this date)

 

      Unit 5   - Due end of 10th week

                  - Deadline: End of 11th week (No work accepted for Unit 5 after this date)

 

      Unit 6   - Due end of 15th week

                  - Deadline: Last regular class day. (No work accepted for Unit 6 after this date)

 

      If Units 4 & 5 are not completed and turned in by Drop Day, the instructor MAY drop you from the course.

 

VI. COMPUTER TIME:

 

      Approximately four to six hours per week of computer time is recommended to complete assignments.

 

VII. GRADING:

 

      40% of final grade = Skill Assessments (All Graded Assignments).*

      40% of final grade = Performance Assessments (3 unit tests).

      20% of final grade = Three theory tests.

 

      *A perfect graded assignment will receive a score of 5.0. A half-point (0.5) will be deducted for each error.

 

0 errors - 5.0                                  4 errors - 3.0                            8 errors - 1.0

1 error  - 4.5                                  5 errors - 2.5                            9 errors - 0.5

2 errors - 4.0                                  6 errors - 2.0                          10 errors - 0.0

3 errors - 3.5                                  7 errors - 1.5

 

      You will work through 3 units during the semester. You will receive points for graded assignments, 3 theory            

      tests, 3 performance assessments.

 

      POINT SCALE:

 

      A = 1343-1500      B = 1193-1342            C = 1043-1192            D =  893-1042             F =  892 & below

 

 

VIII. IDENTIFYING YOUR WORK:

 

      As you complete each assignment, put a footer on the first page of the assignment. The footer should include            your name, chapter number, and assignment number.
