a. ITSW 2431 (Adv. Word Processing) or knowledge of
advanced features of Word 2003 software.
b. Computer with internet access.
c. E-mail address
d. Knowledge of how to create folders and how to
download files and unzip the files.
Course description
A continuation course designed to provide experience
producing complex documents using advanced word processing functions of Word
2003 software. The course is designed to be used by students already familiar
with word processing and Word 2003. The course focuses on advanced Word
features along with desktop publishing terminology and concepts. Topics to be
included are: page layouts, memos, agendas, press releases, letterheads,
envelopes, business cards, certificates, calendars, resumes, brochures,
promotional documents, web pages, PowerPoint presentations, newsletters,
reports, and manuals.

Additional 3.5-inch high-density data disks
(approximately 5 to 11) on which to save specific documents.
OBJECTIVES AND COURSE GOALS
The primary purpose of this course is to develop
skills in critical thinking, decision making, creativity, and to learn the advanced features of Word 2003 and apply
the features to desktop publishing. Many applications are designed to reinforce
collaborative learning in planning, designing, and evaluating business
documents. In many of the applications, basic information is given for a task
just as it may be given in a real life situation.
COURSE COMPLETION REQUIREMENTS

Read the assigned chapters before completing the
assignments.

Complete and submit assignments on time.
·
Complete all theory tests and performance assessments
as required.
Five to six hours per week of computer time is required for students to
complete assignments.
The student
will work through 3 units in the textbook. The student will receive points for
graded assignments, 3 performance assessments, and 3 theory tests.
Theory Test (online written test) - 17%
Daily Assignments - 50%*
Problem Tests - 33% (Performance assessments.)
*A perfect graded assignment will receive a score of
5.0. A half-point (0.5) will be deducted for each error.

NAME AND ASSIGNMENT TITLE
On the assignments to be submitted,

DUE DATES
Weekly assignments are due
each week (check calendar for exact dates). Weekly assignments should be
submitted using the directions under the “Submitting Assignments” icon on the
home page of the WebCT site.
Weekly assignments, Theory
Tests, Performance Assessments (Problem tests) are due by the following dates:
Unit 1 - Due by end of 5th week (work submitted after end of 6th
week will receive NO credit.)
Weekly
assignments must be received on a weekly basis and NOT submitted at the end of
the 5th week all at one time.
Unit 2 - Due by end of 10th week (work submitted after end of 11th
week will receive NO credit.)
Weekly assignments must be received on a
weekly basis and NOT submitted at the end of the 10th
week all at one time.
Unit 3 - Due by end of 15th week (work must be submitted by last class day
before FINALS. If received after that day, NO credit given.

DIRECTIONS FOR ASSIGNMENTS
1.
Save and submit each problem as you complete the
assignment.
2.
Insert your name, the Chapter number, and Assignment
number in a footer on the first page.
3.
Submit each problem to instructor as you complete it
using the "Submitting Assignments" procedures.
4.
Make backups of your data disks.
5.
If you have a diskette that has gone bad, and you
can’t open a file or can’t submit a file, the only solution is to do the
assignment again using another disk.
6.
Saying you did the assignment but can’t submit it or
can’t open it is NOT an excuse I will accept. YOU MUST SUBMIT EACH PROBLEM TO
GET CREDIT—NO EXCEPTIONS!
7.
Deadlines for submitting Assignments:
Unit
4:
All assignments must be submitted by the end of the sixth week. No work for
Unit 4 will be accepted after the end of the 6th week. Unit 4 Theory
Test and Unit 4 Performance Assessments Test MUST be completed and submitted by
the end of the fifth week.
Unit
5: All assignments must be submitted by the end of the eleventh week. No
work for Unit 5 will be accepted after the end of the 11th week.
Unit 5 Theory Test and Unit 5 Performance Assessments Test MUST be completed
and submitted by the end of the tenth week.
Unit
6: All assignments must be submitted by the end of the fifteenth week. No
work for Unit 6 will be accepted after the end of the 15th week.
Unit 6 Theory Test and Unit 6 Performance Assessments Test MUST be completed
and submitted by the end of the fifteenth week.
UNIT

the number of errors and the formatting.
Each assignment will be worth 5
points. Proofread your assignments carefully. For each error, one half of a
point will be deducted.
When an assignment is complete, put
your name, chapter number, and assignment number in a footer on the first page of each
assignment. Save each assignment.
Submit your assignments to your
instructor, through the WebCT site, following the directions under the
“Submitting Assignments” icon. Submit them one at a time as soon as you
complete them. The weekly assignments are due on Friday of each week, but you
can submit them earlier if completed.
