COURSE NUMBER, NAME, AND PREREQUISITE:
Business Management 1325, Office
Management Prerequisite: none
II.
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
A study of the problems of office
management and the duties of the office manager. It also includes the study of the functions
of the AOM, leadership styles, the problem solving process, managing human
resources, training and promotion, office salary administration,
labor-management relations and
managing administrative services.

MAJOR LEARNING OUTCOMES:
After completing this course, the
student should be able to:
1. Define the basic principles of
management.
2. Use problem solving, systems
thinking, and communications to administer the office function.
3. Describe the role of office
personnel in using the tools of information technology to increase productivity.
4. Describe the latest features of
computer systems technology and the management of automated office systems.
5. Explain the main concepts
surrounding the ergonomic environment required for today=s
office.

METHODS OF EVALUATION:
There will be 7 written objective
tests. The seventh test will be
considered the final
exam.
Tests will be multiple-choice, matching, completion, and problems.
VI. INSTRUCTIONAL
METHODS:
The major portion of class time will
be used for lecture and discussion.
Overhead
transparencies, videos, case-problems,
projects, and library articles will be used in conjunction with the
lectures.

VIII. MAKE-UP TESTS:
Students will not be allowed to
make up daily assignments unless the student has contacted the instructor prior to the
time the assignment is due. Tests cannot
be rescheduled, if you miss a
test for whatever reason, the next
test will be recorded twice and 10 points will be deducted from the numerical score
recorded for the test missed. This process can only be used once. If another test is missed, a zero will be
recorded. Example: If you miss Test 1 and make 88 on Test 2, your score
would be 88-10=78. Test 2 score would be
88.
IX.
CLASS ATTENDANCE AND ABSENCE POLICY:
Responsibility for class attendance
rests with the student. Class attendance
will be a part of the unit
assignment grade. A student may be
dropped because of absences, which would occur after a student
accumulates 9 absences. But if the
student desires to drop the
class it is the student's responsibility to submit a drop form to the
counseling office on or
before the semester drop date.

GRADING:
Other than test grades, 20% of your
final grade will come from the following:
A.
Chapter assignments - each chapter will have 1-2 case problems,
projects, and/or
library articles. Each assignment will be worth approximately
20 points each and
will be due on the due dates
assigned. LATE ASSIGNMENTS (FOR
WHATEVER REASON) WILL
RECEIVE HALF CREDIT. (Thirteen grades at
20 points each for
260 points).
B.
Attitude - work habits and use of
time in class, assignments turned in on time,
doing your own work, getting
to class on time, etc. (1 grade of 20
points added to
Extra Credit).
XI. STUDENT
BEHAVIOR:
All students are considered mature individuals by the
faculty and staff. Students will be
required to conduct themselves with utmost consideration of the rights and
property of others. Any behavior on the
part of a student that interrupts or impedes quality instruction shall not be
permitted. Radios, tapes, and other
audio or video equipment are not permitted in the classroom at any time. Cell phones must be turned off. Obscene and profane language will not be
tolerated. Food and drink may not be taken into the labs or classrooms. Smoking is not permitted in any building on
the campus. No children allowed in the
classroom, and they should not be left unattended in the building while the
parent is in class.
ACADEMIC ETHICS
Cheating and plagiarism are not tolerated. A student is expected to do his/her own work
without outside assistance.
