Music Fundamentals I & II
Provides training in the basic elements of music theory and notation, including
scales, intervals, keys, chords and inversions, meter and rhythm. Elementary
ear-training and sight-singing exercises are included.
Elementary Theory I & II
A placement test will determine whether a student
should be placed in Elementary Theory. These courses provide students training
in the study of diatonic triads and seventh chords, chord progressions,
part-writing, and basic form. Also included are non-harmonic tones, modulation,
and secondary dominants.
Elementary Sight Singing & Ear Training
I & II
Provides training in
reading and singing scales, intervals, rhythms, melodies, and diatonic harmonies
in treble, bass and movable C clefs. Rhythmic, melodic, and harmonic dictation
is included.
Advanced Theory I & II
Provides training in analyzing and use of more
complex harmonies and structures of music, including modulation, secondary
dominant, diminished chords and mode mixture. Also included are forms of the
nineteenth and twentieth centuries, augmented sixth chords, extended chords,
impressionism and 12-tone music.
Advanced Sight Singing & Ear Training I & II
Provides training in advanced reading and singing
scales, intervals, extended chords, more complex rhythms, chromatic melodies and
harmonies in treble, bass, and movable C clefs. Rhythmic, melodic and harmonic
dictation is included.
