Demonstrate the use of correct fingerings, hand positions, and technique
appropriate for first semester piano. Play music with melodic, harmonic, and
rhythmic accuracy. Sight read simple compositions. Play simple accompaniment
patterns. Perform a memorized piece from the Baroque period. Music Majors play selected assignments that correspond
with those in Elementary Music Theory I. Play all 15 major scales and I IV I V I
cadences, parallel motion, hands together.
Piano Class II
Demonstrate the use of correct fingerings, hand positions, and technique
appropriate for second semester piano. Play music with melodic, harmonic, and
rhythmic accuracy. Sightread simple compositions. Perform a memorized piece from
the Classical period.
Music Majors

minor scales and i iv i V i cadences, parallel motion, hands together.
Piano Class III
Demonstrate the use of correct fingerings, hand positions, and technique
appropriate for third semester piano. Play music with melodic, harmonic, and
rhythmic accuracy. Play and
sightread
music in various keys and time signatures. Perform a memorized piece from the
Romantic period. Music Majors play
selected assignments that correspond with those in Advanced Music Theory I.Play
all 15 major scales two octaves and the I IV I V V7 I cadences in all
inversions, parallel motion, hands together. The left hand will play roots only
for cadences.
Piano Class IV
Demonstrate the use of correct fingerings, hand positions, and technique
appropriate for fourth semester piano. Play music with melodic, harmonic, and
rhythmic accuracy. Perform a memorized piece from the Twentieth Century period.
Music Majors play selected assignments that
correspond with those in Advanced Music Theory II. Play all 15 major scales and
their parallel harmonic minor scales, two octaves and the I IV I V V7 I and i iv
i V V7 i cadences in all inversions, parallel motion, hands together. Cadences
will use roots only in the left hand and chords in all inversions in the right
hand.
